Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about the current build, gameplay mechanics, and the future of Pokémon Nexus.
General Questions
What exactly is Pokémon Nexus?
Pokémon Nexus is a free-to-play, browser-based fan project heavily inspired by the classic Pokémon Crystal era. It focuses on exploration, account progression, and bringing a nostalgic 2D map experience into a polished, modern web interface. It is a non-profit passion project built for the community.
Is the game finished?
No, the game is currently in an active prototype/beta phase. Core pages, map movement, basic warps, and the underlying site framework are in place, but deeper RPG systems (like combat and complex events) are still being wired in. You can explore, but it is not a complete game yet.
Do I have to download anything?
Not at all! Everything runs natively in your web browser. There are no ROMs to patch, no emulators to configure, and no files to download. Just log in and play.
Gameplay & Mechanics
Can I catch and battle Pokémon yet?
Not properly yet. All the Pokémon assets, sprites, and supporting data libraries are already built into the project, but the actual mechanics for random encounters, catching, battling, and party management are part of our upcoming development milestones.
Does my map progress and location save?
Yes. Basic save and load systems are functioning. Your current map and coordinates are tracked, but please keep in mind that during this testing phase, database wipes or position resets might occur when we push major map updates.
Development Status
Why do some dashboard pages look ready but don't do anything?
To ensure a cohesive look, we built the front-end user interfaces (the "shells") first. This allows us to establish the visual style of the game before doing the heavy lifting of backend programming. Those pages are placeholders waiting for their internal logic to be connected!
What is the developer working on next?
The highest priority right now is wiring the player profile, inventory, Bill's PC, and the Pokédex into the real live account database. Once those core UI elements are fully functional, development will shift heavily toward expanding the map chain and introducing the wild encounter engine.
Accounts & Support
Is Pokémon Nexus free to play?
100% free. We will never hide the core gameplay behind a paywall. The game is sustained entirely by voluntary donations which go straight back into covering server and hosting costs.
Can I make multiple accounts?
Currently, to keep server load manageable and prevent abuse of starter items, we request that players stick to one main account per person. Using multiple accounts to farm or exploit early systems will result in a ban.
